I have been shipping birds since 2001, and have found that it is very safe, and the fastest route to send a bird if the buyer is out of state. Of the 2 airlines listed below, I prefer to use Continental, simply because they make sure through every phase of the shipping the bird is in a climate controlled atmosphere.

I would need the name of the closest airport to you. I can ship any day of the week. I prefer not to ship on a Sunday, if possible. Most airlines require that the bird be at the airport 2 hours prior to departure time. When they arrive at the destination airport it takes about 20-30 minutes for the birds to reach the air cargo. NOTE: Week days the birds will arrive at the air cargo, unless it is a real late night flight. On Saturday, late afternoon to late evening, if the Air cargo office is closed, then the birds will have to be picked up inside at the baggage claim office inside the main airport terminal. When flight arrangements are made, I can let you know where to pick up the bird. If you are unfamiliar with you local airport, I suggest you do a trial drive to become familiar with the location for pick-up.

I use the following airlines for shipping:
I ship out of the Hollywood-Ft. Lauderdale airport.

Continental Live Animal Desk (24 hours)   1-800-575-3335
                                                    Continental Quick Pak
There are no heat restrictions, can ship any time, or season.
$75.00 Plus fuel cost, average cost is approx 87.00-92.00 If you live from CO to the west cost the average cost is $92. If on the East coast from FL the average cost is $87-88.00 I will give an estimate of shipping costs prior to shipping, and will refund any excess.
                                                    Continental does not ship collect
Payment only by checks & credit card at the time of shipping…Therefore I must have the shipping fees sent to me prior to shipment. I prefer the payment be sent to my PayPal account:
sr_tiels@yahoo.com (copy and paste into PayPal) Or payment for shipping included when paying for the bird (by check, or PayPal)

                                                    Delta Cargo Airlines
                                                    Delta Pet First 1-888-736-3738
Delta has heat restrictions. Temps at both destinations should be above 45 degrees and below 85 degrees. What I do is go to www.weather.com and enter in my zip code, and the destination zip code and do a 10 day forecast to see what the temperature ranges are, to plan what day to ship.

Average shipping costs range from $119-125.00 Delta
accepts shipping collect (for shipping charges), Cash, Check and Credit Card.

NOTE: We cannot predict airfreight charges in advance- this is paid to the airline at the time the shipment is received/shipped.The consignee is always notified with the flight number(s), airbill number, and arrival time before the shipment is made. To get the location for pick-up at your airport, call the airline being used for shipping and ask where the air cargo office or the counter to counter office for that airline is located in your local airport.

We do not ship by the U.S. Postal Service. It is illegal to do so and even if this were legal, we do not consider this to be safe and our birds' safety is our first consideration.

In addition to the shipping charges you will need a carrier. Listed below are several options.
1...The carrier cost would be $30.00, if I use one of my own. If the carrier is mailed back to me I can refund the cost.
                                                    (photo below)
                                                    2...
If you have a carrier it can be mailed to me, via the Post Office. Prior to sending it you will have to modify the door of the carrier to airline regs. This is simple to do by attaching a fine mesh to the door to reduce the hole size of the door.
                                                    (photos below)
                                                    3...
Or you can order a carrier online, and have it shipped to me. I would charge a $10.00 fee for modifying the carrier door. This site has carriers at a reasonable price:

                                                    Susanne Russo
                                                    1301 SW 46 Ave.
                                                    Fort Lauderdale, FL 33317

Click on the Photos below for a larger view.
When it is time to ship, I will email or phone to find out the day and time the buyer would like to receive the bird. I will then phone the airlines to book a flight reservation. Once I have the flight info, I will email it to the buyer.

The airport is only a 10 minute drive from my house. What I will do is go to the airport a day or two before shipping to pick up any required forms and labels for the carrier that I will need. Filling these out ahead of time saves time, and stress.

I will feed all the birds several hours before they are put into the carrier for shipping, so that they have time to eat. Approx. 2 hours prior to departure time I will put food in the carrier. I do not put a water bowl in the carrier. I prefer to use fruits and veggies as the source of food and water, because they contain a good content of fluids for nutrients and hydration. Then the bird (birds) are placed into the carrier, and taken to the airport. Most airlines require the birds to be there 1½-2 hours prior to departure time. Once home I will email that the bird in in the air.

Health certificates can be provided at extra charge ($50.00 - $75.00) for states and/or airlines that require this.

It is the responsibility of the purchaser to know and comply with any local laws or regulations regarding the purchase/shipping/possession of a bird. We cannot be held liable for any issues in this regard.
