I have been mixing up my own formula and have had excellents weight gains, which were comparable to parent raised chicks.  I have pre-packaged the dry ingredients that I use in my formula for your covienence.  My hand-feeding article lists the ingredients if you would like to make your own, but by providing all the dry ingedients it will save you the time and expence of ordering all the ingredients separately.

The pkg.  comes with illustrated instructions for mixing, and storage of unused formula (freezing)  I have found that all species of mousebird chicks have done well on this.  Each pkg. contains enough ingredients to mix up a batch of formula to hand-feed and wean out 2 mousebird chicks.

Feeding Utencils

The tweezers are used to hand-feed a chick little bits of chopped bits of fruit.  Included are 2 syringes and a very soft flexible tip for hand-feeding formula to the chick.  An illustration is included with how to use each item.

Sleeping Nests

I have found that when I pull babies they tend to feel more secure in a small basket or nest.  They will sleep in the nest right up til they are weaned.

The nest can later be attached to a platform shelf and hung in the cage where the mousebird will live, and they will use it for sleeping in.

Weighing a bird daily when hand-feeding, or a sick/injured is a good means of seeing if it is maintaining it's weight.

When there is weight loss this can be a 'heads up' to a problem.

The form can be printed on 3 holed paper so that it can be kept in a binder.

Good record keeping is essential and benefical to have a record of breeding pairs.  The upper portion of this form is used to record info on pairs, and overtime document their breeding history.  The lower part of the form can be filled out as the chick grows in the nest, and also if
pulled for handfeeding.

NOTE:  You can print the form on both sides of a sheet of paper.

WANTED: I would like some Speckled and white-headed mousebirds. I am always looking for un-related bloodlines for my Blue-Naped.  I have several whitebacked mousebird families, and would like to trade bloodlines with other breeders.  I am also willing to trade with other breeders for new bloodlines.
